Car, Alexa and Design System

I worked across three related Global Player surfaces: safer in-car listening, Alexa account linking, and a typography refactor that made the design system more flexible across platforms and brands.

The work extended Global Player into automotive and voice contexts while improving the design system underneath. The common thread was adapting the product to platform-specific constraints without losing consistency across Global Player and related brands.

Workstreams

In-car listening

Simplified navigation and adapted playback controls for safer, glanceable automotive UI.

Alexa account linking

Mapped authentication and voice interaction flows for favourites, subscriptions, and continued listening.

Typography system

Refactored platform-specific typography into a flexible system using variables and modes.

In-car listening experience

I designed the in-car listening experience for Global Player, ensuring safe, glanceable interactions for drivers. This included simplifying navigation, adapting playback controls for automotive UIs, and supporting integrations like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Alexa skill and account linking

I led the design for account linking between Global Player and Amazon Alexa, enabling users to access their favourites, subscriptions, and continue listening via voice. This required mapping authentication flows, designing voice interactions, and aligning across Global and Amazon design requirements.

Impact

Improved user acquisition and activation for Global Player on Alexa. Influenced roadmap and led design doubling account linking rates and 4× logged-in listening hours for the Alexa skill used by 6M+ users.

Design system typography refactor

I updated the typography in our Figma design system, consolidating multiple platform-specific font styles into a single, flexible system. The refactored style tokens with variables and modes enabled us to switch typography between iOS, Android, web, and automotive, and to theme across brands like Global Player and LBC with different font families.
